Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin, Soviet pilot and cosmonaut, was the first human being to journey into outer space, when his Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of the Earth on April 12, 1961. In this step-by-step Photoshop tutorial, I will show you how to create a striking vintage-style poster design inspired by Yuri’s journey into space. We will combine stock photos, textures and brushes with blend mode techniques and filters on our way to achive the final design. If you are ready to get started then let’s get to it!
As designers we are often tasked with creating a brand for a business. Sometimes this is a simple logo design and collateral, and sometimes it’s a large scale brand strategy that includes everything from logo, imagery and style to secondary colors and usage rules. It’s always a fun gig to learn about what makes a brand tick and help to put a face on it. When a client truly understands the importance of branding and the message they want to convey, it can be very exciting to bring that message to life visually.

Space is vast. Similarly, the range of stunning images of space is vast. I could sit and look through images of nebulae and galaxies for hours and never get bored. But what if we try to make our own space image? Read on to find out how we can fuse a number of techniques to create this beautiful image.
I’ve rarely encountered a client that has asked for me to work on spec, but I know it does happen to a lot of designers. I’ve even seen websites where clients post their projects and designers try to land the gig by submitting work on spec. Frankly, I believe this is a problem, and devalues the industry as a whole. For those who have never encountered a spec request before, lets define spec work.
This week we have an incredible wallpaper by a talented artist named Cesar Guevara. The piece is titled “Follow Me”. I love the use of light and depth in this work. I found myself staring at it in a bit of a trance. This is one of those pieces that make me want to step inside of it and I love that!
